PLAY STATION SLOTERDIJK
28 JUNE – 3 NOVEMBER, 2019
A new art event, PLAY STATION SLOTERDIJK, opens for the first time on 28 June 2019, around Amsterdam Sloterdijk Station. The event features site-specific works in public space that have been developed especially for this event by both established and up-and-coming artists. The artworks will offer a fresh and surprising perspective on the neighbourhood. Various related activities will take place throughout the summer, including guided tours.
Through experimentation, speculation and imagination, PLAY STATION SLOTERDIJK investigates Sloterdijk’s future as a new quarter of the city. The art route takes human playfulness as its theme, tracing it through the entire programme. Play forms the foundation of our development as humans, after all, as well as our joint shaping of society.
PLAY STATION SLOTERDIJK is a new art project from GET LOST – art projects. GET LOST has been bringing together the art world and business since 2015, by organizing inspiring exhibitions in the public space with artworks by up-and-coming artists. In 2015 and 2018, GET LOST created art routes in Amsterdam’s Zuidas district. Commissioned by the City of Amsterdam, GET LOST has developed a multi-year art programme.
PLAY STATION SLOTERDIJK, taking place this summer, is the first edition. It will feature a series of temporary and semi-permanent works of art – specially developed for their locations in public space, commissioned by NS, ProRail, Holland Casino, LaSalle Investment Management, EDGE Technologies and ABP / APG.
The members of the curatorial team of the first edition of PLAY STATION SLOTERDIJK are: Yvonne Grootenboer, Tracian Meikle, Fadwa Naamna, Florence Parot, Mette Samkalden and Huib Haye van der Werf. All experts on art in public space, familiar with the area and on good terms with the youngest generation of artists.
PLAY STATION SLOTERDIJK is made possible through the generous support of City of Amsterdam.
